The mission for Compass Hotel by Margaritaville Pigeon Forge was clear: break out of the “autopilot” loop and establish direct market share. As a newer property carrying the least-known brand in the Margaritaville portfolio, the hotel entered a market where lodging competition had expanded exponentially with new vacation rentals, cabins, and competitor resorts. Despite offering a fresh take on casual luxury, their digital presence was stuck in a holding pattern against aggressive regional saturation.
The primary objective was to pivot away from a heavy reliance on “legacy” campaign structures and set-it-and-forget-it automated programs. Prior to our engagement, the property relied on Google Performance Max (PMAX) and automated campaigns for their non-brand strategy. While automated tools report comfortable vanity numbers, they were leaking budget into low-yield networks, failing to capture incremental demand, and forcing the hotel to lean heavily on expensive Online Travel Agencies (OTAs) to fill rooms. We aimed to replace automated complacency with a strategic, surgical approach to audience targeting.
-
Reclaim Control: Move beyond the “black box” of Performance Max to gain absolute transparency into media spend and eliminate algorithmic waste.
-
Scale Direct Revenue: Aggressively grow the bottom line by identifying high-intent travel cohorts and capturing non-brand direct reservations.
-
Reduce OTA Reliance: Drive more bookings directly through the hotel’s reservation engine, protecting operating margin from high third-party commission fees.
